Then & Now … Writes JOHN IN HIGHLAND: “This is a postcard that my grandparents sent home in 1941 from the Hotel Lowry. Grandpa Jack liked to attend the hardware convention when it was here in St. Paul. His brother Deglin would mind the hardware store back in Claremont while he was gone. The back of the card tells of rooms for $2 and up (with private bath and air conditioning), a popularly priced coffee shop, and the ‘Terrace Café’ with famous orchestras. A sign of times past: All that was needed for an address was the name of the person and the name of the town where it was going.”
