Designers Courtney Cox and Alex Deringer refurbish a room by replacing a sectional with a budget-friendly adore chair and chairs. Pet-friendly indoor/outdoor fabrics make a room suitable for a German shorthaired pointer who likes to relax on a lounge and demeanour out a window.

Cox and Deringer, of Ivy Lane Living (703-566-6582, www.ivylaneliving.com), are formed in Alexandria.

The designers’ tips:

●A span of upholstered ottomans can be used as footstools or additional seating, and they yield additional storage.
